The Burdekin’s first Get Fit for Free program has been hailed a success with a third of participants attending all of the required fitness classes.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Bill Lowis yesterday congratulated all who participated in the campaign.
“A total of 60 participants signed up to take part in the challenge to complete a total of two fitness classes each week for four weeks,” he said.
“Council is very happy with the successful outcome. The program was specifically aimed at adults over the age of 25 years to increase their physical activity levels on a regular basis.”
Cr Lowis said each of the 20 successful participants had received an incentive prize.
The Get Fit For Free program was held in conjunction with the Burdekin Be Active Committee and was funded through the State Government’s “Swap It, Don’t Stop It” campaign.
