North Queensland Region Update – Townsville Port Access Road Officially Open

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) issued the following Roadworks Update for North Queensland on 26th November 2012.

The moment has arrived!

The $217 million Townsville Port Access Road (TPAR) opened today at 5.00pm. The TPAR will improve road safety and ease traffic congestion by providing a direct route into the Port of Townsville for heavy vehicles from the south and west.

Now that the final section of TPAR is open, the existing curfew on section 1 (the Stuart Bypass) will be lifted for all road trains directly accessing the port from the west.

Planning your trips

Please plan for extra travel time between Home Hill -Townsville, and Townsville – Cardwell Range.

All roadwork schedules and timelines are weather permitting and are subject to change.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road. This will allow work crews to complete their work quickly and safely.
