North Queensland Roadworks Update – Two Weeks from 16th November 2012

Transport and Main Roads (TMR) issued the following Roadworks Update for North Queensland on 16th November 2012.

The next update will be issued about 30th November 2012.

Burdekin

Bruce Highway – Edwards Street, Ayr
Road reconstruction works

  • Reconstruction works at the Edward Street project is now complete.
  • Width restrictions have been removed, with detours through Clare and Ayr no longer in place.
  • The contractor will have some workers on site to complete landscaping, so please be thoughtful to the safety of our work crews when passing through the area.
  • TMR is proud of the final result of the project.

Bruce Highway – North of Brandon
Sandy Corner to Collinson’s Lagoon

  • The contractor VDM has been appointed as principal contractor for the Sandy Corner to Collinsons Lagoon project.  The project will provide a cane-rail overpass and southbound overtaking lane.
  • Prelimanary works have commence, with full construction to commence before the end of 2012.
  • This project is expected to be completed 2014

Townsville

Townsville Port Access Road project
Paving works at Boundary Street and Benwell Road intersection

  • This Sunday, 18 November everyone is invited to celebrate the opening of Townsville Port Access Road.  Come along from 9 to 11 am and walk over the new Ross River bridge before it opens to traffic.   We have roadtrains, hot rods and vintage car displays, along with everyones favourite – sausage sizzle and fresh coffee to take care of your hunger pains.  You can access the the bridge from Boundary Street and Benwell Road.  There is limited parking available off Hubie Taylor Place via Archer Street. Looking forward to seeing you there!
  • Final touches are being completed on the new Ross River Bridge, TMR anticipate that the new road will be opened to traffic on Monday 26 November 2012.
  • Please check the department’s website (www.tmr.qld.gov.au) to confirm opening date and time.

Travelling to Ingham

Scrubby Creek to Ollera Creek
Road reconstruction work

  • Reconstruction work between Scrubby Creek and Ollera Creek along the Bruce Highway approximately 70kms north of Townsville has commenced.
  • Work will continue until early February 2013, weather permitting.
  • Width restrictions are in place for this project, therefore all loads wider than 3.5m are required to contact Emad Beshara on 0477 710 945 a minimum of 48 hours prior to passing through this section of road.
  • Traffic controllers and speed restrictions will also be in place for the duration of the works and delays of up to 10mins can be expected.  Traffic signals will be in operation after hours.

Bruce Highway – Townsville to Ingham
Heavy Vehicle Rest Area

  • The construction of a new Heavy Vehicle Rest area near Christmas Creek, approximately 50kms north of Townsville is now well underway.
  • Anticipated completed date is early December 2012, weather permitting.
  • Traffic controllers and speed restrictions are in place with delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected.  Traffic signals will be in operation after hours.

Hinchinbrook

Ingham – Abergowrie Road
Operation Queenslander – Reconstruction works

  • Reconstruction works along the Ingham – Abergowrie Road between Hamleigh Road and north west of Mortons Road are well underway.
  • Due to the roadworks, all excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact Ross Percival on 0409 897 782 a minimum of 24 hours prior to passing though the roadworks.
  • Speed restrictions and single lane closures with delays of up to five minutes will be in place for the duration of the works.

Ingham – Halifax – Bemerside Road
Operation Queenslander – Reconstruction works

  • Preliminary reconstruction work along the Ingham – Halifax – Bemerside Road in the vicinity of Catherina Creek is expected to continue until late February 2013, weather permitting.
  • Due to the roadworks, all excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact Greg Munro on 0439 898 827 a minimum of 24 hours prior to passing though the roadworks.
  • Speed restrictions and single lane closures with delays of up to five minutes will be in place for the duration of the works.

Halifax – Lucinda Point Road
Operation Queensland – Reconstruction works

  • Reconstrucion work is due to commence within the next couple of weeks along the Halifax – Lucinda Point Road in the vicinity of Gentle Annie Creek Bridge and Dungeness Creek.
  • Work will continue until late February 2013, weather permitting.
  • Once roadworks commence, all excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact Greg Munro on 0439 898 827 a minimum of 24 hours prior to passing though the roadworks.
  • Speed restrictions and single lane closures with delays of up to five minutes will be in place for the duration of the works.
  • Operation Queenslander is powering on and our focus is on delivering critical local infrastructure across our state.

Travelling to Cairns

Arnot Creek Bridge

  • Essential repair works have commenced on Arnot Creek Bridge, on the Bruce Highway, approximately 13km north of Ingham.
  • Due to some unforseen technical challenges with the replacement of transverse bars, crews are working closely with engineers to progress the repairs.
  • The speed limit has been reduced to 20km/hr and temporary lane closures are in place.
  • Traffic controllers and signage is also in place and motorists may experience up to 10mins delays.

Cardwell Range Realignment

  • The Cardwell Range Realignment project involves realigning the Bruce Highway through the Cardwell Range to improve safety and traffic flow.
  • Single lane closure with delays of up to 15mins can be expected on the Bruce Highway through the Cardwell Range for the rest of 2012 and into 2013.
  • Road restrictions are in place for this project, therefore all loads wider than 4m are required to contact Adrian Van-Arendonk or his delegate on 0410 463 065 a minimum of 48 hours prior to passing through this section of road.  The Cardwell Range Alliance reserves the right to delay any vehicle not complying with the above condition.

Travelling to and from Charters Towers

Stuart Drive, Wulguru
McCahill Street intersection works

  • Roadworks are continuing on Stuart Drive, near the intersection of McCahill Street in Wulguru, to improve visibility for motorists.
  • For the safety of motorists and workers, a single lane closure is in place, just south of McCahill Street.
  • Traffic controllers will be on site during the day and will assist pedestrians crossing Stuart Drive at this location.
  • Speed restrictions will also be in place on Stuart Drive, between Lowe Street and Dunk Street for the duration of the works.
  • Works will continue until early December 2012 (weather permitting).

Flinders Highway (Townsville-Charters Towers)
Operation Queenslander – Reconstruction works

  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements work along the Flinders Highway between the Woodstock turnoff and Reid River are on track for completion in the new year, weather permitting.
  • Excess dimension loads restrictions, speed restrictions and traffic controllers will be in place for the duration of the works.  Delays of up to 10mins can be expected.

Gregory Development Road (Charters Towers to Lynd)
Pavement investigation works

  • Pavement investigation works have commenced along the Gregory Developmental Road between Stockyard Creek floodway and Paddy’s Creek Bridge.
  • The work will be carried out in three sections and will continue until early December 2012; weather permitting.
  • Traffic controllers and speed restrictions will be in place for the duration of the works and delays of up to 15mins can be expected.

Belyando to Charters Towers
Operation Queenslander – Reconstruction works

  • Christmas closedown arrangements are under way for Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements work along the Gregory Developmental Road, between Victoria Creek and Policeman Creek.
  • The project is expected to return to work mid to late January 2012
  • Completion date is anticipated for mid next year; weather permitting.
  • All Excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m shall contact Brett Harding on 0407 646 538 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
  • Traffic controllers and speed restrictions will continue to be in place with anticipated delays of up to 15mins.

Reseal works at a number of locations are commencing on Tuesday 20 November 2012 and anticipated to be completed by early December 2012; weather permitting.  Please allow extra travelling time and drive to the conditions of the road.

Flinders Highway (Charters Towers – Hughenden)

  • From Seven Vale Road to Sausage Creek and;
  • Deadman Creek to Homestead Creek and;
  • Caltex Street to Sensible Creek

Gregory Developmental Road (Charters Towers-The Lynd)

  • TARS site to Fletcher Creek and;
  • Breakneck Gully to Fletchervale

Woodstock – Giru Road

  • Flinders Highway to Serpentine Lagoon

Burdekin Falls Dam Road

  • Flinders Highway to Little Oaky Creek and;
  • Kirk River to Deadman Creek

All roadwork schedules and timelines are weather permitting and are subject to change.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and drive to the conditions of the road. This will allow work crews to complete their work quickly and safely.
