Australia Day Award nominations close on December 20

Time is running out for Burdekin residents to nominate someone for an Australia Day Award.

Burdekin Shire Council Economic and Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said the deadline for nominations, December 20, was fast approaching and urged residents to nominate someone they thought deserved some recognition for their work.

“If you know anyone that is active within our community, then it is worth making the effort to put their name forward,” he said.

“The Australia Day Awards are about recognising the accomplishments and contributions of our residents.

“The Burdekin community is filled with people who tirelessly give their time to others and these are the people who deserve recognition.

“If you know of someone that was previously nominated but missed out then by all means nominate them for the 2014 awards.”

There are categories for outstanding citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportspeople with a disability and cultural achievements, as well as a category for community events.

Nomination forms are available from the Council Chambers, Ayr and Home Hill libraries and on Council’s website www.burdekin.qld.gov.au

The deadline for nominations is 5pm Friday, December 20, 2013.
