Temporary Closure of Vehicle Inspection Site – Townsville Port Road

The Department of Transport and Main Roads advises that the construction of a weighbridge will commence at the vehicle inspection site
along the new Townsville Port Road.

Work is expected to commence from Tuesday 24 September 2013
for approximately eight weeks.

As part of these works, the vehicle inspection site (inbound and outbound)
will be  closed to all vehicles.

All trailers / vehicles need to be removed prior
to the commencement of these works.

Burdekin Shire

Bruce Highway (Bowen – Ayr)
South of Homestead Road and Charlie’s Hill Road
Overtaking lanes
Anticipated completion: November 2013
  • The construction of the new overtaking lane south of Homestead Road and Charlie’s Hill Road is almost complete
  • Motorists may experience minor delays through the job site as final works, including sealing and linemarking are completed on the project
  • Speed restrictions remain in place and traffic controllers will be on site intermittently

Seventh Avenue
Reconstruction works
Anticipated completion – late October 2013
  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements works along Seventh Avenue, from Fifteenth Street to the Inkerman Mill tram line, Home Hill, are still on track for completion in October 2013
  • Motorists are strongly urged to heed traffic controllers’ instructions and abide all speed restrictions whilst travelling through this project.  Traffic signals will be in operation after hours and delays of up to 15 minutes can be expected
  • All excess dimension loads wider than 3.5 metres are to contact Chris MacDonald on 0429 413 912 or Steve Coulter on 0408 066 443 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 48 hours in advance

Rossiter’s Hill
Overtaking lanes
Anticipated completion: November 2013
  • The construction of this new southbound overtaking lane, south of Rossiter’s Hill is on track for completion by mid-November 2013
  • This project is between Home Hill and Ayr, just north of the Giddy Road and McDesme Road intersection
  • Motorists can expect minor delays, lane closures and width and speed restrictions
  • Advanced warning signs have been erected to notify road users of these changes and motorists are urged to slow down, be patient and obey all signage when travelling through this project

Sandy Corner to Collinson’s Lagoon
Road realignment
Anticipated completion – mid 2014
  • Hoey Road will be closed to all traffic commencing 23 September 2013 and will reopen 14 October 2013.  Please seek an alternative route if you need to travel along Hoey Road
  • Speed restrictions will remain a priority for the project site, these are in place for the safety of all motorists and our workers.  TMR asks all motorists to adhere to these restrictions as Queensland Police regularly patrol this section of the highway

Pink Lily Lagoon
Reconstruction works
Anticipated completion – late October 2013
  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements works at Pink Lily Lagoon just north of the Haughton River Bridge are progressing well
  • Width Restrictions – All excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact Steve Coulter on 0408 066 443 or Chris MacDonald on 0429 413 912 a minimum of 24 hours prior to passing through the roadworks
  • Motorists are asked to obey traffic controllers’ instructions and signage whilst driving through the project site
  • Expected completion of these works is late October 2013

Woodstock-Giru Road

Anticipated completion – December 2013
  • Works are well underway for the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements works along the Woodstock-Giru Road
  • The works are concentrated between the Bruce Highway/Woodstock Giru Road intersection and Geary’s Road
  • Culvert works are continuing throughout the site and stabilisation of prepared overlay has also commenced
  • For the duration of the project, motorists can expect delays of about 10-15 minutes due to lane closures and speed restrictions
  • Wide loads restrictions of more than 3.5m are also in place and are directed to contact John Cash on 0429 066 350 or Daniel Kennedy on 0407 157 785 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 48 hours in advance

Garbutt – Upper Ross Road
Dalrymple Road / Banfield Drive / Angus Avenue intersection
Drainage works
Anticipated completion – December 2013
  • Drainage works have commenced along Angus Avenue, between the Dalrymple Road / Banfield Drive intersection and Dalrymple Service Road, Heatley
  • From Monday 23 September for approximately three weeks, Angus Avenue will be closed due to the installation of 45m long slab link box culverts across the road
  • At this time, no lane closures are expected along Dalrymple Road however speed restrictions will be implemented
  • Advanced warning signs will also be erected when the closure is implemented and TMR requests motorists to seek alternative routes during this period

Hervey’s Range Developmental Road (Townsville-Battery)
Hervey’s Range Road
Reconstruction works
Anticipated completion – February 2014
  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements work along 24kms of the Hervey’s Range Road are well underway
  • Culvert works have been completed and pavement overlay and stabilisation works will be commencing shortly
  • Hervey’s Range Road will be subject to changed traffic conditions.  This will include lane closures, width and speed restrictions. As a result, motorists can expect delays of up to 15 minutes
  • Motorists are advised to observe and obey all signage when travelling through this project
  • Wide loads must contact the site supervisor Rob White 0429 434 759 or Peter Webster 0408 135 348 prior to arriving so that arrangements can be made to ensure safe passage through the worksite

Hinchinbrook Shire

Bruce Highway (Ingham-Innisfail)
Hawkins Creek to Arnot Creek
Reconstruction works
Anticipated completion – October 2013
  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery work between Hawkins Creek North and the Arnot Creek, north of Ingham, is progressing with four sections under construction
  • Full width pavement reconstruction work is currently underway including excavate, rock backfill, sub-base and base and primer seal at Arnott Creek with concrete floodway work at the Seymour River Bridge.
  • Heavy vehicle operators are reminded that excess dimension loads wider than 3m are to contact 1. Shane Cairncross 0409 843 158, 2. Russell Nielsen 0400 577 675 or 3. Les Wilson 0488 001 117 a minimum of 24 hours prior to passing through the roadworks
  • Speed restrictions and single lane closures with delays of up to 15 minutes will be in place for the duration of the works

  • The Arnot Creek Bridge is open to two lanes of traffic, however a 60km/hr speed limit over the bridge remains in place until bridge repairs have been investigated and completed
  • Motorists are advised to observe and obey all signage when travelling through this site

Cardwell Range Realignment
Anticipated completion – November 2013
  • Work on realigning the Bruce Highway through the Cardwell Range to improve safety and traffic flow is continuing and with weather permitting, will be completed by November 2013
  • Intermittent lane closures for the remainder of the works can be expected
  • Major crest cutting work on the northern end of the range is continuing
  • Road restrictions are in place, all wide loads greater than 3.5m are required to contact Adrian Van Aredonk or his delegate on 0410 463 065 no less than 48 Hours prior to passing through this project

Charters Towers Shire

Flinders Highway (Townsville – Charters Towers)
Cardington Road to Oakey Creek
Reconstruction works
Anticipated completion:  late October 2013
  • Approximately 10kms of work between Cardington Road and Oakey Creek have commenced and is being delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA)
  • As a result of the works, the Flinders Highway will be subject to changed traffic conditions.  This will include lane closures, side tracks, width and speed restrictions
  • Advanced warning signs will be used to notify road users of these changes
  • Motorists are advised to observe and obey all signage when travelling through this project

Flinders Highway (Charters Towers – Hughenden)
Traveller Information Board to Alpha Creek

Anticipated completion – February 2014
  • Work over several sections of the Flinders Highway between the Traveller Information Board and Alpha Creek, to be delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), has commenced
  • For the duration of these works, the Flinders Highway will be subject to changed traffic conditions which will include lane closures and speed restrictions with delays of up to 15 minutes
  • Excess dimension restrictions will also be in place for loads wider than 3.5 metres.  Operators must contact Tony Catton on 0418 490 894 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 48 hours in advance
  • When work commences, motorists are urged to observe and obey all signage when travelling through this project

Flinders Highway (Charters Towers – Hughenden)
Granite Creek Bridge
Changed conditions
  • Due to changes with the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ (TMR) structural standards and for motorists’ safety, the Granite Creek Bridge, 92 km south west of Charters Towers has been reduced down to one lane
  • In addition, a 60km/hr speed limit has been put in place
  • These measures have been taken as a precaution until bridge strengthening works can take place
  • Motorists have been advised to observe and obey all signage when travelling over this bridge

Gregory Developmental Road (Belyando-Charters Towers)
Victoria Creek and Policeman Creek

Anticipated completion – November 2013
  • The Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements work is continuing along the Gregory Developmental Road, between Victoria Creek and Policeman Creek
  • Work is progressing well along this stretch of road.  Motorists can still expect single lane closures with delays of up to 15 minutes
  • All Excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m shall contact Brett Harding on 0407 646 538 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 24 hours in advance
  • Please note reconstruction work is also being conducted about 13kms south of this project (refer item below)

Anticipated completion – early October 2013
  • About 4kms of roadworks near the Pajingo Station along the Gregory Developmental Road is progressing well
  • Traffic controllers and speed restrictions are in place for the duration of the works and delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected.  Traffic signals will be in operation after hours
  • All excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact Brett Harding on 0407 646 538 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 24 hours in advance
  • Please note reconstruction work is also being conducted about 13kms north of this project (refer above item)

Hervey’s Range Road and north of Stockyard Creek floodway
Reconstruction work
Anticipated completion – March 2014
  • Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements work along the Gregory Developmental Road between Hervey’s Range Road and just north of Stockyard Creek floodway is moving along quite well
  • Stabilisation works nearing completion prior to work crews moving onto the next section of the project
  • Speed restrictions are in place, however no additional mass restrictions will apply
  • Traffic controllers are also in place for the duration of the works and delays of up to 10 minutes can be expected.  Traffic signals will be in operation after hours
  • All Excess dimension loads wider than 3.5m are to contact either the site office on 4788 5091 or Jesse Palk on 0427 469 946 or Stevie Hughes 0407 159 920 or Warren Preston 0439 898 334 prior to passing through the roadworks, with notice to be provided a minimum of 24 hours in advance
