$1 million to be spent on drainage

Residences to the north-west of Ayr will benefit from the Burdekin Shire Council’s construction of the Muguira Drain.

Mayor Bill Lowis said the $500,000 project would be constructed through an existing easement in Chippendale Street and Muguira’s property, at the northern end of Chippendale Street.

“This project will address the restricted drainage issues that previously plagued this area,” he said.

“Works also will be done to the Spiller Street drain from Graham Street to Macmillan Street at a cost of $300,000 to help alleviate flooding in Queen Street during heavy rain.

“Council also will spend $200,000 on the Home Hill Town Drain.”
