Burdekin Shire Council will install a permanent generator at the No 1 Sewer Pump Station in Ayr.
Mayor Bill Lowis said Council had budgeted $50,000 for the installation.
“The new generator will ensure the No 1 Sewer Pump Station will not be affected by power outages,” he said. “This will improve the reliability of the district’s largest pump station.
“Council is now into its sixth year of the Shire’s annual sewer re-lining program, allocating $500,000 to extend the life of our ageing sewer pipes.
“A further $100,000 this year will be spent on the ongoing digital replacement of the existing analogue telemetry system. The telemetry system provides 24-hour monitoring of sewage pump stations and alerts staff of pump faults or other potential pumping failures.
“Council has also budgeted $150,000 for the refurbishment of the sewerage pump stations.”
