Youth urged to join Council

Burdekin Shire Youth Council is calling for nominations from young people aged between 12-25 years for positions on the Youth Council.

The Youth Council is a team of young people who represent youth; communicate and liaise with the community; and organise projects and events in order to improve the status of all young people and provide them with greater opportunities.

Youth Council Liaison Officer Lauren McKaig said the Burdekin Shire Youth Council was an important advisory group on youth issues in the community.

“Members meet regularly to identify and address local youth issues and strategies,” she said.

“We have lost a number of members from the council with past Year 12 students leaving the district and we are looking for some new faces to come on board.

“This is a great opportunity for our younger residents to put their stamp on the future of youth services and events in the Burdekin.”

Membership of the Youth Council is open to young people who live, work or study in the Burdekin. Application forms are available from high school offices, online at www.burdekin.qld.gov.au and the Burdekin Shire Council office. Nominations forms must be returned by Friday, February 15.

The first Youth Council meeting this year will be held on Monday, February 18. However all are welcome on Monday and late nomination can be arranged.
