Deadline looms for Australia Day Award nominations

The deadline for nominating Burdekin residents for an Australia Day Award is fast approaching.

Burdekin Shire Council Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said the closing date for nominations, December 19, was only a few weeks away and urged residents to nominate someone they thought deserved recognition for their work.

“The deadline will be upon us before we know it and Council would really love to see more nominations coming in,” he said.

“These awards are a way of acknowledging those who are active within our community and make a difference to those around them.

“We are very fortunate that our community has a great depth of volunteers and community minded residents who deserve recognition, but we need you to nominate them.

“If you know of someone that was previously nominated but missed out then by all means nominate them for the 2015 awards.”

The award categories include recognition for outstanding citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportspeople with a disabilities, cultural achievements and community events.

Nomination forms are available from the Burdekin Shire Council Chambers in Young Street, Ayr; the Ayr and Home Hill libraries; and on council’s website at www.burdekin.qld.gov.au.

Nominations will close on Friday, December 19, 2014.
