Burdekin welcomes State funding for Spiller Street drainage works

The Burdekin Shire Council has received $320,000 in State funds toward its $800,000 Spiller Street/MacMillan Street drainage upgrade.

Burdekin Shire Mayor Bill Lowis today welcomed the announcement from Minister for Local Government, Community Recovery and Resilience David Crisafulli.

“Every little bit of funding we can get to go toward these sorts of projects is lessening the burden on our ratepayers,” he said.

“This project will see concrete culverts and open concrete lined drains put along Spiller Street and MacMillan Street to carry stormwater away to the town drain.

“This particular area suffers greatly from water backing up and flooding has become an issue.

“The Spiller Street works will extend from the Graham Street intersection through to and including MacMillan Street.”

Cr Lowis said Council had already begun preparatory works at the intersection of Spiller Street and Queen Street.
