Christmas Eve is the last day for Australia Day Award nominations

Burdekin residents have until Christmas Eve to nominate a deserving community member for an Australia Day Award.

Burdekin Shire Council Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said there had been a steady flow of nominations, but more were needed.

“This is your chance to say thanks to those who work hard in our community,” he said.

“We are fortunate to have a lot of residents who are active in our community and this is the time to acknowledge them.

“If you know of someone that has previously been nominated and missed out on an award, renominate them.

“We have added new categories to the list for next year’s awards, so if you’ve wanted to nominate someone but didn’t know what category was best suited, now is your chance to find the best fit.”

There are categories for outstanding citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportspeople with a disability and cultural achievements, as well as a category for community events.

Nomination forms are available from the Council Chambers, Ayr and Home Hill libraries and on Council’s website www.burdekin.qld.gov.au.

The deadline for nominations has been extended to 5pm Thursday, December 24, 2015.
