Burdekin Shire Council is offering gardeners the chance to collect free mulch from the Home Hill Waste Transfer Station on November 21 from 10am until 2pm.
Council’s Governance and Local Laws Manager Dan Mulcahy said a loader would be available at the Home Hill Waste Transfer Station to load trucks, utes and trailers with the mulch.
“Mulching your garden can help retain moisture in the soil and would be an ideal way to help conserve water in these dry times,” he said.
“It is also a good soil conditioner and helps keep roots of plants cooler and moderates soil temperature fluctuations.
“Mulch can also inhibit weed growth, so you’re spending less time weeding your garden in the summer heat.”
Residents collecting the free mulch must follow the directions of the transfer station operators at all times and be mindful of others who may be waiting.
