Get Ready Burdekin Family Fun Day a success

Hundreds of Burdekin residents called in to the Get Ready Burdekin Family Fun Day last weekend.

Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group chairman and Mayor Bill Lowis labelled the event a success.

“It was great to see residents making the effort to come down and collecting their cyclone kits,” he said.

“The Burdekin has had a number of close calls over the past few years where cyclones have been making a track toward us, but change direction at the last minute.

“Our residents need to be ready for these types of weather events to ensure we bounce back quickly should one impact our region.

“This event is a great way to learn what to have in your emergency packs and this year Council gave residents cyclone packs which included a rechargeable power pack for mobile devices, rain ponchos, waterproof document bags and a USB stick packed with plenty of helpful information.”

Council also announced the winners of the portable 3.6kVa generator and 10 iPod Touch units. The winners were:

  • Portable 3.6kVa generator: Yolanda Hansen
  • iPod Touch: L Mills; Roselys Taylor; John Scott; Leisa Dabelstein; Norma Byron; Alice Warner; Colette Piva; Kerry Baumgarten; Michael Warner; Jodie McDonald; and Christina Wakefield.
