Nominations open for 2016 Burdekin Australia Day Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2016 Burdekin Australia Day Awards.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Bill Lowis said these awards were a way for the community to acknowledge the hard work of volunteers.

“Our region is very fortunate to have a lot of dedicated people who want to help their community and do it for the love of the Burdekin,” he said.

“They expect nothing in return for doing this, but these awards are one way we can publicly say thank you.

“I would ask residents to get their thinking caps on and put in a nomination for one of these deserving people.

“If you’ve nominated someone in the past and they weren’t selected for an award, nominate them again.”

The award categories include recognition for outstanding junior and senior citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportsperson with a disability, junior and senior cultural achievements and there is also a category for community events.

Nomination forms are available from the Burdekin Shire Council Chambers in Young Street, Ayr; the Burdekin Library Ayr and Home Hill branches; and on Council’s website.

Nominations must be received by Council by close of business on Monday, December 21, 2015.
