The Burdekin Shire is centred on the rich farming land of the Burdekin River delta, covering an area of approximately 5000 square kilometres and is home to an estimated 18,000 residents. The major township of Ayr is situated 90km south of the large regional city of Townsville and 190km north of the relaxed lifestyle of the Whitsundays.
The Burdekin region is highly specialised around agribusiness – especially the growing of cane and sugar production. The region is increasingly known as one of the most productive agricultural districts in Australia due to its abundant year-round supply of water. The Burdekin also produces fruit, vegetables, beef and seafood for domestic and international markets.
The region also offers excellent health and educational facilities and a wide array of cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
Council employs approximately 230 staff and has an annual operating budget for 2016/2017 of approximately $46.7M.
Council is seeking an active and engaging leader who will work with the elected members as their expert advisor to support their vision, strategic goals and organisational objectives. Applicants should demonstrate a professional history of fostering a culture of organisational performance, customer service and collaboration.
Experience and a history of achievement in executive leadership in a local government and tertiary qualifications relevant to this position, will be highly regarded.
