Planned Air-scouring of Water Mains in Ayr

Council’s air scouring crew will be undertaking scouring of water mains in Ayr as follows:

Tuesday 1st March, 2016 – Brisbane Street from Edwards Street to Norham Road

Wednesday 2nd March, 2016 – Cole Street from Brisbane Street to Michael Street, and Michael Street from Cole Street to Norham Road

Thursday 3rd March, 2016 –  Michael Street from Edwards Street to Cole Street

Pipes are cleaned by a process where water is removed from the pipe and then reintroduced slowly with pressurised air to create turbulence, which removes built up deposits on the pipe walls. The deposits from the pipes are then captured in filter bags to eliminate discharge to the environment.

The air scouring process requires the isolation of sections of water main and household water services. Each section will be isolated for a maximum of seven (7) hours between 8:45am and 3:45pm during which water supply will be disrupted.

Residents in this area are advised to store ample drinking water for one day’s supply and may experience water discolouration for up to two days after works are completed. You may wish to postpone washing of clothes etc., during that time.

Please ensure that any dogs are restrained in an area away from the water meter to enable safe access for Council employees. Gates should be unlocked or, if this is not possible, please contact Council’s Customer Service Section to discuss access provision.

On behalf of Council, I apologise for any inconvenience and thank you in anticipation of your co-operation and patience. This activity will help to reduce future occurrences of discoloured water.

If you have any queries in relation to this matter please do not hesitate to contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on 4783 9800 between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.
