The Burdekin Shire Council has welcomed a $57,736 grant from the State Government’s Get Playing, Places and Space Program which will enable shade covers to be erected at the Ayr Skate Park.
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the grant would help protect park users from the hot North Queensland sun.
“Council is very thankful to the State Government for this grant as it will provide shelter to our youth,” she said.
“The youth using the park had requested Council install shade covers and were consulted about its positioning, so this is a great result for them.
“This facility has been very popular since its construction in 2004 and it’s not unusual to see a crowd of people using it at weekends.”
Council will call for quotations for the construction of the shade cover and expect the project to be finished by April 2017.
