The Burdekin Seniors Advisory Group is inviting the Burdekin community to learn about the NBN next week.
Burdekin Shire Councillor and Advisory Group chairman Cr Ted Bawden said the meeting would be held at the Burdekin Shire’s John Drysdale Chambers on Wednesday, September 14 at 10am.
“Originally the seniors group asked to have this presentation to help our seniors understand what NBN is and how it is going to affect them, but there is so much confusion around the place, that we decided to open it up to the general public as well,” he said.
“We will have Telstra’s Area General Manager make a presentation to the meeting and then a field technician and the local Telstra Store Manager will be on hand to answer any questions.
“Some of the topics that will be covered include what to do if you have a medic alarm, what happens during a power outage and how to transition to the NBN.”
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin urged residents to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the NBN.
“This is the perfect opportunity to get all your questions about the NBN answered,” she said.
“There is a lot of confusion, especially amongst our older residents, about what it is and how it will affect them.
“The NBN service will affect all our residents as it is replacing the old copper telephone connections.”
