Closing date for Australia Day nominations extended

The closing date for Burdekin Shire Australia Day Award nominations has been extended until Wednesday, 14 December.

Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said a number of nominations had been received, but not in all categories.

“I encourage residents to nominate people who have been going above and beyond for our community,” she said.

“The Australia Day Awards are a way for the community to show its appreciation for their efforts.

“If you know of someone who was previously nominated for an award, but weren’t successful, then nominate them again.”

The award categories include recognition for outstanding junior and senior citizens, sportspeople, sports administrators, sportsperson with a disability, junior and senior cultural achievements, senior and junior environment award, community events, Life Time Contribution Award and an Excellence Award for a person who is an inspirational role model in either a paid or unpaid capacity.

Nomination forms are available from the Burdekin Shire Council Chambers in Young Street, Ayr; the Burdekin Library Ayr and Home Hill branches; and on Council’s website at www.burdekin.qld.gov.au.
