Council calls for sport bursary applications

Burdekin Shire Council is calling for local amateur sports people to apply for the Wingate Properties North Queensland Sports Encouragement Bursary.

North Queensland Sports Foundation life member and Burdekin Shire Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the North Queensland Sports Foundation was this year dispersing the bursaries to member councils.

“The Burdekin is a fantastic breeding ground for young athletes and sports people and I would encourage them to take the time to apply for this bursary,” she said.

“Winning applicants will receive $650 and a unique embroidered track suit jacket.

“This is only open to athletes who are residents of our Shire and who are 17 or younger this year.”

Cr McLaughlin said the bursary winners would be encouraged to inform Council and the Foundation on their achievements.

“We love to hear how our recipients fare,” she said.

“This bursary is a great way to help our young sportsmen and women reach their goals in their chosen sport.”

Nomination forms for the Wingate Properties North Queensland Sports Encouragement Bursary will be available on Council’s website, Council’s Customer Service Centre, Burdekin Library Ayr and Home Hill Branch library. Application forms must be submitted to Council by Friday, 15 July 2016.
