Christmas is the time for giving and the Burdekin Shire Council got into the Christmas spirit by presenting a gift basket to the Burdekin Community Association (BCA).
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the large gift basket had been sent to Council from a waste services company.
“Our Council does not accept gifts so we donate them to community organisations,” she said.
“They can then use the items to raise money for their club or organisation.
“This keeps our dealings with businesses transparent.”
Cr McLaughlin said Council had chosen the BCA as the recipient as the organisation worked hard for the Burdekin community.
“The BCA provides a lot of essential support to our community and we are pleased to be able to provide them with this gift,” she said.
BCA Chief Executive Officer Debra Cochran thanked Council for the donation.
“This is a wonderful gift and we will raffle it off in the New Year as part of our fundraising activities,” she said.
