Council helps raise awareness of mental health services

Drums, yoga, massage, fresh organic produce and lots of information about mental health will be available to Burdekin residents at the Community Wellness Morning in Anzac Park, Ayr, on Saturday morning.

Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the event was being held as part of Council’s Mental Health Week activities.

“It’s Council’s aim to promote alternative and natural wellness activities to help with mental health and raise awareness of what services are available in our community,” she said.

“We’ve got a great line up of free activities for residents to participate in such as a yoga session with Melissa Baker, a poi workshop with Fire Flyz from Magnetic Island and a drum circle with The Rhythm Connection.

“Adriel Burley from COREs will be our guest speaker and there will be mental health information available from the Burdekin Mental Health Foundation.

“There are some paid activities as well including massage and face painting, and there’ll be coffee, juice, fresh local organic fruit and vegetables for sale as well.

“Bring the kids along and enjoy all the activities from 7am.”

The Community Wellness Morning will be held at Anzac Park, Ayr, from 7am until 11am on Saturday, 15 October.
