Burdekin Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from the community to fill three audit committee positions.
Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council’s Audit Committee was integral to Council’s operations.
“The Audit Committee provides independent advice to Council and the Chief Executive Officer about finance, governance, risk management and audit related matters,” she said.
“Council recently resolved to increase the independent membership of the Audit Committee from one to three to ensure Council receives a wider scope of advice and input.
“The three positions are independent community member, independent professional member and independent chairperson.
“I would encourage suitably qualified and experienced people who are interested to put in an expression of interest.
“These positions are not open to Councillors present or past, or Council employees present or past.
“This is to ensure the advice Council receives is completely independent.”
Cr McLaughlin said the first meeting of the Audit Committee would be held in February 2017 and would meet at least four times annually.
Expressions of interest forms can be found on Council’s website – www.burdekin.qld.gov.au. The closing date for expressions of interest is 4 November, 2016.
