Children of East Ayr and surrounds will soon have new playground equipment to play on at Coutts Park.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the new equipment would be installed in the coming weeks.
“The playground equipment has arrived and Urban Play will be on site to begin installing it on Wednesday, September 7,” she said.
“Council has invested in this new equipment to provide an alternative place to Anzac Park for families to use.
“Over the past 12 months Council has installed a new picnic shelter with table and seating, a free barbecue, completed a new parking area and footpath in Coutts Park.
“These recent upgrades have seen an increase in people using Coutts Park and the new playground equipment will be the icing on the cake.”
Cr McLaughlin said the large double tower play unit would cater to children aged four through to 12 years.
“It’s also roomy and sturdy enough to take older people, so parents and care givers are able to play alongside their children,” she said.
“Apart from being great fun, the variation of activities of the Mega Deck Towers offers good muscle and motor skills training, balance and coordination.”
Council’s Operations Manager Wayne Saldumbide said most of the park facilities would remain available for use during the construction period.
“The erection of the new equipment should only take four days and then Council crews will install new kerbs and sand softfall,” he said.
“We anticipate that the new equipment will be ready for use before the school holidays,” he said.
“The existing playground equipment in Coutts Park will be retained to broaden the age that the playground caters to.”
