A night of entertainment is being planned for next year’s Australia Day Awards in the Burdekin.
Burdekin Shire Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council was changing the time of the awards to allow residents to enjoy Australia’s national day.
“We’ve moved the awards to the night prior to Australia Day so everyone can enjoy the public holiday with their family,” she said.
“This year the awards will be held at the Burdekin Theatre and will feature the Burdekin Brass Band, Air Force Cadets, Burdekin Singers and Theatre Company, Rhythm Edge Dance Studio and Sophie Ricca will perform the national anthem.
“It will be a great night of entertainment, a chance to recognise some of our wonderful community members and to welcome some new Aussies to the community.
“Tickets are only $3 and we will have the bar open and supper will be provided.
“I’m excited about the new time and hope the community will come along to enjoy a night of Australiana.”
The Burdekin Australia Day Awards Evening will be held at 7.30pm on 25 January, 2017, at the Burdekin Theatre.
