Burdekin Women Ready to Shine

Monday 6 March saw 150 residents be empowered and inspired by guest speakers at the Burdekin Women – It’s Time to Shine event at the Burdekin Theatre Foyer.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Queensland Women’s Week was a fantastic opportunity to encourage women to pursue leadership positions in the community and workplace.

“Council was fortunate to secure Erin Molan, Channel 9’s co-host of The Footy Show as special guest who spoke of her upbringing, trials and triumphs.

“The evening also saw former Home Hill women, Marissa Candy, Director of The Marketing Factory and Yvette Le Blowitz Founder of Spa It Girl as well as experienced Clare journalist, Leanne Oliveri take to the stage alongside Erin to inspire the crowd with words of wisdom.

“The evening was organised by Eliza Lovell, Economic and Community Development Support Officer who had every detail organised perfectly for the evening to run so smoothly,” Cr McLaughlin said.

Council has received a lot of positive feedback regarding the event and thank all those who attended and supported the event. Council looks forward to leading the establishment of a Burdekin Women’s Networking group.  If you would like any further information regarding the group or would like to register your interest, please contact Eliza Lovell on 4783 9831.

Burdekin Shire Council would like to acknowledge that ‘Burdekin Women – It’s Time to Shine’ was hosted in partnership with Ayr and Home Hill Chambers of Commerce. The event was also proudly supported by YWCA Queensland and the Queensland Government, along with Dominques.
