Home Hill Tennis Association will be able to undertake a major upgrade of its facilities after Burdekin Shire Council approved its request for an interest free loan of $60,000.
The association plans to undertake the works in two stages and was recently successful in gaining funding of $100,000 from Sport and Recreation Queensland’s Get Playing Places and Spaces Program. The $60,000 interest free loan will allow the club to fund its own share of the project.
Stage one involves upgrades to six courts including court surfaces, fencing and lighting, along with the installation of a digital court booking system. Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council’s interest free loan scheme had assisted many groups in the community to successfully upgrade and grow their facilities.
“It’s a scheme put in place many years ago which supports sporting bodies and community organisations to improve and grow their facilities,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“A lot of groups make use of it and it’s a fantastic opportunity for them.
“Council supports sporting organisations in providing opportunities for healthy lifestyles and the approval of this interest free loan for Home Hill Tennis Association is a great example of this.”
The Home Hill Tennis Association plans to repay the loan over a 10 year period. For further information please visit Council’s website http://www.burdekin.qld.gov.au or contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 4783 9800.
