Schools, community organisations and dance groups will receive assistance to create flash mobs and pop-up performances for this year’s Burdekin Water Festival Mardi Gras when Ausdance Qld arrives in the Burdekin later this month.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Ausdance Qld was bringing its Community Bounce Tour to North Queensland and would stop in Ayr on 28 August to 2 September to host a series of dance workshops.
“The Community Bounce Tour will bring a talented group of professional dance artists to the Burdekin to teach workshops in Hip Hop, Contemporary, Afro-Fusion, Improvisation and more,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“The timing of the tour couldn’t be better. In the days leading up to the Water Festival Mardi Gras on Saturday 2 September, groups will be able to book customised workshops and receive guidance to create and perform their own flash mob.
“It’ll really bring something unique and exciting to this year’s Mardi Gras. The performances will be a lot of fun to watch and to participate in too.
“Even if you don’t want to perform in the Mardi Gras, the workshops will be a great way to learn new dance styles and techniques from leading Queensland dance artists, including Australia’s Got Talent grand finalist Ab Sow.”
The Burdekin Shire Youth Council will also host a meet and greet with the dancers in the Burdekin Council Chambers from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Monday 28 August.
Cr McLaughlin said it was an ideal opportunity for anyone who didn’t belong to a group or couldn’t attend a workshop to meet the dancers.
Group workshops cost $10 per person for a single workshop and $5 per person for subsequent workshops.
