Youth Council secures X Factor’s Isaiah Firebrace for Fast Track

The Burdekin Shire Youth Council has secured 2016 X Factor winner Isaiah Firebrace to be the guest celebrity for the 2017 Burdekin Fast Track Talent Showcase on 1 & 2  April.

Isaiah was discovered at his local Fast Track Talent Showcase and went on to win X Factor. He will be part of the industry workshops, guest judge at the Final Showcase along with Yoyo Music industry professionals and perform a mini concert after the Final’s Showcase.

Burdekin Shire Mayor Lyn McLaughlin congratulated the Youth Council on securing such an inspirational performer.

“Not only will we have Isaiah, but we will have talented regional performers on stage as well,” she said. “Fast Track nominations are now open and I encourage everyone to have a go, you never know you could be the next Isaiah Firebrace.”

The Mayor also called on Burdekin youth to join the Youth Council and get involved with the Fast Track event.

“If you want to be a part of all the fun of the Fast Track Talent Showcase this year, get your nomination in now to be a part of the Youth Council,” she said.

“Council has delivered application forms to high school offices and the forms are also available from Council’s website and from the Council Chambers.”

Current Youth Mayor Tayla McKaig said the Youth Council was a great way for young people to be involved in the community.

“We have helped at many fun events, like the Burdekin Water Festival and Fast Track,” she said.

“We have also been involved in serious issues like the Relay for Life and Anti-Poverty Week where we collected items for those less fortunate than ourselves – that was a very rewarding experience.”

The Burdekin Shire Youth Council is open to those aged from 12 through to 25 and meets monthly. Membership of the Youth Council is open to young people who live, work or study in the Burdekin. Nominations forms must be returned by Friday, February 17. The first Youth Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017.
