The following is a selection of videos depicting life in the Burdekin Region where you can discover the friendly residents and a laid-back atmosphere.

By far the district’s greatest claim to fame is its fishing.

The Burdekin is well-known for its barramundi, mudcrabs, other estuary species and off-coast reef fishing.

Burdekin farmers are known to produce the biggest and sweetest sugar cane in Australia, as well as mangoes, melons, capsicums, zucchinis, tomatoes and many other small crops.

The Burdekin region includes Ayr and the surrounding area. It supports a thriving horticulture industry with harvests of tomatoes, capsicums, mangoes, rockmelon and honeydews to name just a few. It is also one of Australia’s largest suppliers of sugar cane, producing more than eight million tonnes of the sweet stuff every year.

Food production is the glue that binds much of country Queensland. This fact is celebrated at colourful community food festivals throughout the year. The events are a great way to taste, smell and savour the flavours our state is famous for. The annual Tastes of the Burdekin Festival takes over downtown Ayr and showcases the best of local produce.
