Closing Part or All of a Footpath

Overview

If you are a tradesperson , shop or property owner and require part or all of a footpath to be closed, for example, painting a shop front, an application for a Permit to Close and Barricade a Footpath and/or Erect Staging and/or Scaffolding on a Road or Footpath must be lodged.

Details

This application should be made at least three working days prior to the proposed works and shall be accompanied by an approved traffic management plan and the applicable permit fee.  Once Council approves the application, a copy of the signed form will be given to the applicant.

If the works are on or within ten metres of a State controlled road; e.g. Queen Street or Edwards Street, Ayr or Eighth Avenue, Home Hill, the applicant will have to contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads on 13 19 40 and apply for a Road Corridor Permit (RCP).

Council may have suitable signage and barricading for hire for a standard fee.

  • Erect Staging and/or Scaffolding on a Road or Footpath

    A permit is usually required if you need to carry out work on one of Council's footpaths (e.g. painting a shop front) requiring the footpath to be closed.

    General Information

    An application for a Permit to Close and Barricade a Footpath & Erect Staging and/or Scaffolding on a Road or Footpath is usually lodged when tradesmen are carrying out work on one of Council’s footpaths e.g. painting a shop front, requiring the footpath to be closed.

    The applicant will be required to fill out an application form and pay the applicable fees.

    Note: All applicants closing the footpath will be required to pay the first application fee.

    If the applicant is also erecting staging or scaffolding i.e. tressels for painting, a second fee will apply.

    The applicant will receive a copy of the signed form.

  • Hire of Signage

    Council has a number of warning/advisory signage equipment available for hire, including road signs, barricading and other road traffic safety equipment.

    Council has a number of warning and advisory signage equipment available for hire.  Road signs, barricading and other road traffic safety equipment hired from Council is to be paid at Council’s Customer Service Centre prior to such item being collected from Council’s Store by the person/s bearing a Council receipt for same where a hire agreement will be duly signed by both the hirer and the Council’s Store Personnel and signage issued.

    If equipment is returned after the agreed return date, but before the one month expiry date, a weekly late fee per item will apply as well as a weekly (or part thereof) hire fee.

    If equipment is not returned after one month from the agreed return date, the Burdekin Shire Council will deem the equipment as not returned and will charge the hirer a weekly late fee per item, a weekly hire fee, as well as replacement costs of outstanding hire equipment.

    Damages/loss incurred to equipment will be charged to the hirer at current replacement costs.

    Note: Council can not advise the public on what signs are required for the road works being carried out. If the person wanting to hire the signs is unsure of what signs are required, they should seek advice from a professional.
