See, smell and taste the rich history of the Burdekin at the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships on Saturday 3 June, 2017. Competitors from across Australia vie for the title of champion hand cane cutter. Experience the dirty, back breaking work of days gone by, when sugarcane was cut by hand.
The Championships will be held at from 10am – 5pm at the Home Hill Showgrounds, in Australia’s sugar capital, the Burdekin. Watch as the purpose-grown crop of sugarcane is cut by gritty and determined competitors. Displays, food, cold drinks and children’s activities combine to make this a fantastic family event
Children can enjoy FREE craft activities, FREE Face Painting, FREE Games, FREE Animal Farm and a FREE Jumping Castle. In addition to the exciting cane cutting competitions there will be live entertainment all day for everyone to enjoy. There will also be vintage machinery displays, wood working demonstrations, cultural activities and lots more.
Local not for profit organisations and cafe’s will provide a selection of delicious food and beverages available to purchase and you can also enjoy a cold drink at the bar.
