The Ayr Showgrounds, the Burdekin Theatre and the Burdekin Memorial Hall are facilities owned and managed by the Burdekin Shire Council.

The Burdekin Shire Council also has four pools located in Ayr, Home Hill, Clare and Millaroo.  The operation of the Ayr and Home Hill pools is contracted out. The Clare and Millaroo pools have Council staff to monitor and clean the facilities.

The Ayr Showgrounds is just north of Ayr with the main entrance on the corner of the Bruce Highway and Craig Street.

The Burdekin Theatre is at 161 Queens Street in Ayr and is the home of Arts and Entertainment for the Burdekin region.

The Burdekin Memorial Hall is at 77-79 Ninth Avenue in Home Hill and is extremely popular as a venue for major balls, fashion shows, cabarets, dance nights, school formals and weddings.

Booking a Venue

Council Venues are available for regular or casual hire by community groups, government and non-government organisations, businesses, and individuals.

Booking Fees and Charges

All venue and pool bookings attract various fees and charges.

You will be advised in writing when your booking is approved. NO booking is confirmed until you receive and sign the agreement and pay the required hire fee and/or damage deposit.

The Ayr Showgrounds including the main ring is available for hire for exhibitions, funfairs, showgrounds, horse events, rodeos and circus type events.

The annual Burdekin Show is held here in June each year.  The event includes free family entertainment, rides, show-bags, food stalls, equestrian program, fireworks, exhibits and retail displays.

The Ayr Showgrounds Hall has a capacity of approximately 200 patrons seated with tables. A commercial kitchen and bar permits on-site catering. A PA system is also available for hire.

The versatility of the Burdekin Memorial Hall makes it a popular venue for major balls, fashion shows, cabarets, dance nights, school formals, weddings and meetings.

The centrally located venue features the Main Hall with a capacity of 1000 patrons seated concert style and 500 patrons seated with tables. Complete with stage and modern dressing rooms, a comprehensive sound and lighting systems can be operated by highly skilled technical staff.

A commercial kitchen and bar permits on-site catering.

The Minor Hall is ideal for smaller functions and meetings for up to 30 people.

The Burdekin Theatre is the home of arts and entertainment in the Burdekin Region playing host to a diverse range of live performances, conferences, meetings, seminars, exhibitions and many local events.

The venue features an impressive 472 seat auditorium supported by professional technical staff with facilities that meet industry standards.

The Burdekin Theatre Foyer is a versatile space suitable for smaller intimate performances or cabaret style seating for up to 140.

Functions for up to 25 people are catered for in the adjacent Music Loft or a large group seating in theatre style.

The Outdoor Forecourt at the front of the theatre can accommodate up to 700 people for outdoor entertainment.

The venue has a commercial kitchen available for hire and operates a licensed bar in conjunction with events.

Burdekin Theatre Music Loft

The Burdekin Theatre Music Loft is a small multi purpose venue located on the Mezzanine level of the Burdekin Theatre Complex.

The Music Loft is a perfect venue for entertaining, corporate functions & meetings, exhibition space and intimate performances and rehearsals.

The Music Loft is often used as a “break out” venue for conferences as well as a venue for private functions in association with events in the main theatre or foyer.

A range of equipment can be hired for use in the venue such as projection and presentation equipment.

The Music Loft has a small kitchen.

Access

The Music Loft has full wheel chair access and is accessible via the venue’s Foyer using the lift or stairs and via an external staircase at the side of the Complex. There is also wheelchair ramp access to the venue from the Loft’s Balcony.

Capacity

  • Standing functions: 150 – 180 with use of the Loft Balcony
  • Theatre style seating (with room for a presentation/performance area): 100 – 120
  • Conference table style set up: 80 approximately.
