The Council comprises of a Mayor and six councillors.
The Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 8.30am. For the current Agenda and Minutes, please visit our Council Publications - Agenda and Minutes page. Councillors devote much time to Council meetings and other committees and functions in carrying out their duties.
The Burdekin Shire provides a wide range of services including traditional services such as road and drainage work, water supply, sewerage and refuse collection. In the last decade the Council has introduced an increasing number of social, cultural, recreational and welfare services. In some cases other local authorities in this country have followed the Burdekin Shire Council's management methods in the provision of these services.
