    Burdekin Library is proud to offer a range of e-book services, including websites, State Library of Queensland e-books and Kindles for loan.


    The Burdekin Library is proud to provide you with access to a wide range of free online e-books.

    But first, what are e-books and e-book readers? Click here for a quick guide from Wikipedia.

    We are very lucky to have access to a wide range of e-books through the State Library of Queensland:

    • TumbleBooks – a website with children’s e-books and games. (These cannot be downloaded, only viewed online).
    • EBook Library (EBL) - almost 100,000 non-fiction e-books on a variety of subjects for you to enjoy! (*you will need to use your library card to register for a QPL account before accessing the EBL*)

    And, if that’s not enough, why not borrow one of the library’s Kindles already loaded with e-books for you to enjoy!  The Kindles were provided from grant funding through the State Library of Queensland and the State Government. Click here to see our current range available.

    Online Resources

    Access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases are available through the State Library of Queensland using your Burdekin Library Card.


    Queensland public libraries are provided through the State Library of Queensland with access to a number of authoritative, subscription-only databases that are not available through Google or other free search engines.  Some of these are below.

    Library membership is required to access these databases. You will be asked for your library card number.

    If You are not a member we would love to see you in the Library. It takes 2 minutes to join and you need two forms of ID. Search your for your Ancestors on-line (ACCESS AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY ONLY)

    SpineOut Online is a place for young people where you can express your ideas and thoughts and to share your creativity in words, art, film or music. A fun and interactive site.

    Good Reading Online An Australian resource with information on “Everything About Books” including thousands of easy to read independent book reviews and lots of interesting Australian and International articles, author profiles, stories on writers’ houses, bookshops, short stories, book trivia and more.

    Gale Virtual Reference Library offers encyclopaedias and reference sources for research on many topics. Use them for quick help or doing homework assignments.

    Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre Contains full text of over 240 periodicals, and abstracts/indexing for nearly 400 periodicals focusing on the Australia/New Zealand region. Includes magazines, newspapers, newswires, reference books and company information.

    Health & Wellness Resource Center Access to articles in over 200 leading medical journals of which about 150 are available full text
