To assist horse owners there are some paddocks available for rent for the agistment of the horses.
Owners of horses also have minimum standards and animal specific standards they must comply with. In certain circumstances approval may also be needed to keep a horse.

Under Local Law No. 2 (Animal Management) 2012 to keep a horse on certain allotments requires an approval.

There are a number of paddocks available to rent within the Burdekin Shire.
The available paddocks for rent are the Home Hill Tafe Paddock and the Drainage Paddock near the Ayr/Brandon Sewerage Treatment Plant.
There is a weekly charge per horse, payable three months in advance. You will receive a receipt for this payment and a Debtors account will be set up for you. These accounts are sent out every three months.
Once payment has been received you will be given the original key to the paddock which can be taken to get copied. The original then needs to be returned to Council.
