Community Tree Planting
Burdekin Shire Council supports all Landcare groups, Community groups, Schools and individual landowners that are engaging in genuine revegetation projects.
In terms of Council responsibilities, the Natural Resource Management Unit maintains two native plant nurseries that supplies local tree planting groups as well as Council tree planting and revegetation/restoration activities such as Cattana Wetlands, Reef Rescue projects, River Improvement Trust projects and Tropical Tree Day. Council does not retail to the general public.
The Natural Resource Management Unit is also involved in Council’s hazard reduction burn program. This program operates in conjunction with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of Environment and Resource Management as well as Queensland Fire and Rescue Service. Works of this nature are designed to reduce the frequency of wildfires, protect adjacent urban areas and provide a measure of conservation to nearby forest habitats.
