Food Safety Training

Under the provisions of the Food Act 2006, Food Safety Standard 3.2.2 Div 2 Clause 3 requires persons undertaking or supervising food handling operations to have appropriate skills and knowledge in food safety matters.

Councils’ Environmental Health Officers (EHO’s) run a basic food safety course (not accredited) once a month for food handlers, which is designed to provide food handlers with an important understanding of the causes and the prevention of food borne illness (aka food poisoning).  Attendance at this course will satisfy the requirements of food handlers needing appropriate skills and knowledge in food safety matters.

Courses are free for any person currently owning, managing, supervising or working in any one of the Burdekin Shire Council licensed food businesses.  Those who have already completed an accredited food safety course need not attend. However, proof of training is to be provided to Council’s EHO’s.

Future food safety courses:

Wednesday 23 April 2008

Wednesday 21 May 2008

Time: 9am - 11am

Place: John Drysdale Meeting Room, Council Chambers, 145 Young St, Ayr
