From November to March, the Burdekin Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) heightens its readiness to respond to any cyclones and flooding that may threaten our region.
After the success of last year’s event, and to assist the local community to prepare for the upcoming cyclone and wet season, the LDMG and the Ayr Local Ambulance Committee are coordinating a ‘Cyclone Saturday’ event. The aim of the event is to raise awareness in the Burdekin region about the services available during an emergency.
This community event will be held on Saturday 27 October 2012, on the former junior soccer fields adjacent to the PCYC on Macmillan Street, Ayr from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
Agencies involved in disaster management have been invited to have stalls at the event and will distribute information resources such as pamphlets, magnets, brochures, and cyclone tracking maps. These resources will contain information to help people to prepare for the wet season and ensure their families, homes and friends are safe. There will also be a range of food and market stalls, and rides and activities for the kids.
So come along and tell your family and friends about the event.
