Everything the Burdekin has to offer was on show at the Townsville Tourism Expo at the Strand Night Markets in Townsville on Friday.
Burdekin Shire Council Economic and Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro said the Townsville Tourism Expo was held twice a year to help educate locals about the products and services available in the Townsville region.
“The Expo is in its third year and attracts thousands of people who are interested to see what is on offer around the region,” he said.
“Research has shown that a high number of tourists to the Townsville region are visiting family and friends and we have to educate the local residents on what we have to offer their visitors.
“This time we were featuring the upcoming Burdekin Growers Race Day and had a number of Burdekin Race Club members helping out.
“We also gave away fresh produce that was grown in the district.”
Mr Vaccaro said feedback from previous expos was that people were very interested to find out what was in “their own backyard”.
“With the expansion of Lavarack Barracks and the influx of southern tourists at this time of year, the Townsville Tourism Expo was an ideal place to promote the Burdekin region and what is has to offer,” he said.
“We are only an hour’s drive from Townsville and in a prime position to capitalise on the day-trip market.”
