Youth bands wanting to show off their talent are urged to nominate for this year’s Burdekin Battle of the Bands.
Burdekin Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said nominations were now open for the popular annual competition.
“This competition is a great opportunity for young bands to get some exposure and experience in playing to a large audience,” she said. “It also gives them a chance to develop their profile, network with other bands and collect an award.”
The popular annual competition, which is organised by the Burdekin Shire Youth Council, will be held at the Burdekin Memorial Hall on Saturday, April 14.
All band members must be aged between 12 and 25 to be eligible for the competition.
There are only 12 band spots available, so performers should act fast to secure a place.
Cr McLaughlin said the competition traditionally attracted bands from the Burdekin, Townsville, Bowen, Charters Towers and Ingham.
“We encourage new faces to take up the challenge and hope to see a good mix of new and old performers at this year’s contest,” she said.
“Each competing band will need to perform two songs – a cover and an original – and they will be judged on their musical ability, originality, stage presence, audience appreciation and commercial viability.”
Prizes will include cash and musical instruments.
Nomination forms are available from the Burdekin Shire Council chambers and Delta Music in Ayr. They can also be downloaded from council’s website at www.burdekin.qld.gov.au
The closing date for nominations is Friday, March 30, 2012.
