‘Tis the season for Carols on the Green

Get your singing voices ready for the Burdekin’s community Christmas event, Carols on the Green, this weekend.

The event will be held on Watson’s Green in Home Hill on Sunday, December 9, from 6pm.

This year’s Carols on the Green features carol singing, live music, children’s entertainment and a special visit from Santa Claus.

Food and drinks will be available from 5.45pm.

Burdekin Mayor Bill Lowis said the popular annual event was a great way to get into the spirit of Christmas.

“It’s a chance for everybody to kick off their Christmas festivities and enjoy being part of a really positive community event.

“This event has become a nice tradition for Burdekin families and I sincerely thank all involved with bringing joy of Christmas to our community.

“It is heart-warming to see children with their parents, singing carols and enjoying the entertainment.”

This year’s line-up includes entertainment by the Home Hill Choral Society, Burdekin Singers’ Ladies Choir, the Gospel Outreach Centre, the Combined Churches Choir and the Burdekin Brass Band.

The special guest for the event is Santa who will arrive at 7pm.

Cr Lowis said the program would end at about 8.30pm.

Throughout the night, the Home Hill Rotary Club and the Burdekin Scout Group will be offering food and drink for sale.  Sweets, tea and coffee will be available for sale from the Cherish ladies of the Burdekin Community Church.

Cr Lowis said residents should not bring traditional candles with naked flames.

“For safety reasons we ask that no one brings a traditional candle, however there will be safety candles and glo-wristbands on sale at the venue,” he said. “Residents should also bring their own blanket or chair so they can enjoy the carols in comfort.”

Carols on the Green is supported by the Burdekin Shire Council, Burdekin Churches Together, the Lower Burdekin Newspaper Company, Burdekin Brass Band, Sweet FM Radio Station, Home Hill Chamber of Commerce and the Home Hill Choral Society.
