Burdekin Shire is centred on the rich farming land of the Burdekin River delta, covering an area of approximately 5,053 square kilometres, with an average resident population of 18,000. The Shire is categorised as a Rural Agricultural Very Large (RAV) Local Authority under the Australian classification of Local Governments.

The Burdekin Region offers an outstanding lifestyle that is both contemporary and relaxed. The major township of Ayr is situated only a short drive between the regional centre of Townsville and the relaxed lifestyle of the Whitsunday’s.  The Burdekin has abundant water supplies, excellent health and educational facilities as well as offering a fantastic array of cultural, sporting and recreational activities.

The Council plays an important role in improving the liveability of our community by providing many of the services and facilities used every day. With a 2013/2014 operational budget of approximately $40 million and also $40 million in capital which includes substantial NDRRA works and a staff of 230, you will work closely with the Mayor and elected representatives in the delivery of a wide array of services to the community.

We are looking for a proven leader with an ability to promote and encourage strong community engagement.  You will bring outstanding people and leadership skills which have seen you deal with complex environments and engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders. You will have an engaging interpersonal style that will see you influence and bring about positive cultural and process change across your teams and throughout the organisation.

Council is offering a highly attractive salary package which includes notional salary, superannuation (up to 12%) and a motor vehicle as part of a negotiated four year contract. The successful applicant is expected to be or become a resident of the Burdekin Shire and relocation fees will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
