The Burdekin is built on liquid gold and last year the Burdekin Shire Council won the 2012 Orica Australia Best of the Best Queensland Water Taste Test. As a result, Council has joined the qldwater on tap campaign to celebrate our valuable water resource and residents can help by refilling their reusable water bottles with tap water.
Burdekin Shire Council has installed hydration stations in Anzac Park and Queen Street near the Ayr Post Office.
By refilling your water bottle, you can stay hydrated in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.
The qldwater on tap campaign is about making smarter choices. All communities want – and need – safe, secure and sustainable water services, so it’s in our best interest to learn more about the way water is managed in our communities. That way we can make informed decisions about our water use at home, at school and when we’re out and about.
Refilling your water bottle from the tap is also cheaper than buying a bottle from the supermarket.
In the Burdekin, it costs ratepayers 16c for 1000 litres of tap water. So refilling your water bottle will save you money and it also helps the environment.
According to Clean Up Australia Day statistics, bottles and cans represent more than 20 per cent of all litter collected and if you include broken bottles, caps and lids that figure skyrockets to more than 35 per cent.
