Residents in Giru are being asked to conserve water while upgrades to the Cungulla/Giru Water Treatment Facility are carried out in the next few weeks.
Burdekin Shire Council Operations Manager Wayne Saldumbide said the plant would be undergoing an upgrade and water supplies to Giru could be affected from May 25 through to June 15.
“Townsville Water is upgrading the facility to enable remote monitoring of the plant,” he said.
“During the wet season there are often times that Townsville Water employees are unable to access the plant and these works will enable Townsville Water to monitor the efficiency of the plant during times of flood.
“Potable water will be trucked to Giru to maintain supplies during the upgrade, but I urge residents to conserve water for the duration of the works.
“With cooperation from residents we are hopeful that the upgrade can be performed without interruption to supply.”
Mr Saldumbide said Giru residents would receive a letter and Townsville Water also had placed a notice board in Giru advising of the work.
