Following the success of last month’s free mulch weekend, the Burdekin Shire Council is again offering residents the chance to collect some free mulch.
Council’s Environment and Health Manager Tracy Jensen said a loader would be available at the Ayr Waste Transfer Station to load trucks, utes and trailers from 11am-3pm Saturday, March 9, and from 8am-1pm on Sunday, March 10.
“Last month’s free mulch offer was a great success and we had a steady stream of people taking advantage of the offer,” she said.
“There is still a large quantity of mulch left at the Ayr Waste Transfer Station and the opportunity is there for residents to collect it for free.”
Miss Jensen said adding mulch to gardens was an excellent way of reducing weeds.
“With the recent rain, everything is growing well and that includes the weeds,” she said.
“By mulching residents can inhibit weed growth and also provided organic material to the soil.”
Miss Jensen said mulch also would be available free from the Home Hill Transfer Station at the weekend, however residents would need to load the mulch themselves. If the marker is not visible, zoom out or slide the map down and to the right
