Burdekin Shire Council will tomorrow (August 20, 2013) begin the removal of the old Home Hill National Fitness Hall in Eleventh Avenue.
Mayor Bill Lowis said the old hall had not been used for a number of years and was an ongoing burden to ratepayers.
“Unfortunately the old structure, which was last used by the Burdekin Wood Crafts Association, is not safe for use any more and needs to come down,” he said.
“The shire has a number of old structures that not longer serve a purpose to the community and cost the ratepayers money to repair and maintain.
“We have already disposed of the old Millaroo Hall and Council is currently consulting with the Clare community with regard to the Clare Hall and Reserve.
“Most of these building pose a risk to people as they contain asbestos and with the lack of use by the community it makes financial sense to remove them.”
