Get your singing voices ready for the Burdekin community’s premiere Christmas event, Christmas Carols, this weekend at Watson’s Green in Home Hill.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Bill Lowis said the event was a great way for the community to come together and share the spirit of Christmas.
“This event is a chance for everybody to kick off their Christmas festivities and enjoy being part of a really positive community event,” he said.
“I thank all involved with this event for bringing the joy of Christmas to our community.”
Residents are reminded that for safety reasons traditional candles cannot be lit at this event. There will be safety candles and glo-wristbands available for purchase on the night.
Bring along a blanket or chair to enjoy the carols in comfort.
There’ll be a lantern parade and a special visit from Santa for the children who come along. If children want to make lanterns there will be a lantern-making workshop at the Burdekin Library Ayr from 10am or make your own at home.
The program, which begins at 6.30pm and ends about 8.30pm, features Reece D’Alessandro, the Combined Community Band, the Burdekin Brass Band and a Community Choir.
The Home Hill Rotary and Lions Clubs and the Burdekin Scout Group will offer food and drink for sale. Sweets, tea and coffee will be available for sale from the Cherish ladies of the Burdekin Community Church
This year’s Christmas Carols are supported by the Burdekin Shire Council, Burdekin Churches Together, The Burdekin Advocate, Home Hill Chamber of Commerce, Burdekin Brass Band and 97.1 Sweet FM Radio Station.
