Almost 80 million steps were recorded by participants in this year’s Burdekin 10,000 Steps Community Challenge.
Community Development Manager Tony Vaccaro congratulated the participants for taking part in the six-week event.
“We had a fantastic response to the 10,000 Steps Challenge this year with 182 people signing up,” he said.
“Only 20 dropped out of the Challenge, so that is a great result and I thank the community for taking part.”
“The winning team was Stirlo’s Steppers A, which recorded a total of 1,101,733 steps, which is based on the team’s average steps for the entire six-week challenge.
“The Ladies’ Challenge winner was Deb Harris from The Sole Mates, who recorded a massive total of 1,809,207 steps.
“The Mens’ Challenge winner was Ian McChesney-Clark from The Pace Makers, who tallied 1,050,215 for the six weeks.
“Congratulations to the Challenge winners who have won some fantastic prizes, but really, everyone who participated is a winner in my view.”
The Top 10 participants were Deb Harris 1,809,207; Tennille Myles 1,806,524; Sue Piotto 1,668,480; Donna Plant 1,558,504; Teneill Ready 1,414,656; Lisa Stirling 1,197,085; Andrea Piotto 1,153,945; Ian McChesney-Clark 1,050,215; Linda Christensen 1,037,030 and Joanne Codega 1,003,874.
Each member of the winning team will receive a prize package valued at $139 including one month’s free membership at Curves valued at $79, Sportfirst prize pack valued at $50 and $10 voucher from Fit 4 Life NQ.
The Ladies’ Challenge and Mens’ Challenge winners received a $240 prize package including one free bootcamp voucher from NRGIZE Fitness valued at $180, Weight Watchers prize pack valued at $50 and $10 voucher from Fit 4 Life NQ.
