Excitement builds for Melbourne Cup visit to Burdekin

Excitement is building in the Burdekin as the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour nears its Home Hill stop on September 20.

Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Bill Lowis said this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Burdekin residents to view the Melbourne Cup trophy.

“This will be your chance to see the golden cup up close and even have the opportunity to have a picture taken holding it,” he said.

“The Burdekin Race Club in Home Hill has planned a fantastic day of races and family entertainment to mark this special occasion.

“Home Hill is one of only 34 stops on the Cup’s tour of Australia and New Zealand and Council is proud to be a part of this event.”

Locals also will get the chance to talk with Tour Ambassador and racing veteran John Marshall who rode Rogan Josh to victory in the 1999 Melbourne Cup. He also won the 1988 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Canberra on Beau Zam.
